SYNOPSIS
Young Canadian-Arab couple Adam and Jasmine are preparing for a family dinner, Adam confronts his mother about his late father’s ancestral origin. As dinner is cooks, tensions rise between family members. Just as things start getting hot, Jasmine refocuses Adam and the family’s attention on what’s more important in their life.

"Boiling is a film about something that should be simple and peaceful slowly turning into a mess. Coincidentally, this is how most films come together. It felt for a while that this was Boiling’s trajectory. We had a tight pre-production, casting problems, and a crew full of people doing jobs that they might not have even heard of before. However, Boiling never reached a boiling point. People rose to their tasks, going about their work with a commitment to their jobs and working through the problems they encountered. Our cast took on a challenge being in this film too, working to accommodate our rushed production into their lives and giving some incredible performances. The movie we ended up making is a very funny and special look at the tensions that hit every family every once in a while. I was lucky to be the director on this project, and was happy to work closely with everyone involved in this project. I can’t wait for everyone to see our movie."

THE PRODUCTION
This short drama was Produced in Humber College’s Film and Television Program. Although the Pre-production process began months in advance, this film completed shooting in just 3 days!
THE BUILD
The in-studio construction build of the set of Boiling took place in 24 hours. The Construction, Paint, Props and Set Dec crew transformed the 4 walled set into a beautiful apartment fit for a Canadian-Arab family.
THE INSPIRATION
The Screenwriter of Boiling, Nadia Zreik, is a Syrian native now living in Toronto Canada. She drew inspiration from her own culture and from watching DNA testing commercials on TV incorporating it into this comedic fictional story about love and family.
